The Indian Super League (ISL) has witnessed its teams evolve in various ways, with one of the most striking changes being in their kit colours. As these clubs shift their home kit colours, they not only refresh their identities but also reflect their growing stature and ever-evolving fanbases. Let’s take a closer look at five ISL teams that have undergone significant kit transformations, each marking a unique chapter in their journey.

FC Goa

Founded in 2014, FC Goa, also known as the Gaurs, initially wore a blue-based kit as their home jersey. This blue kit was a key part of their identity in the early years of the ISL. However, in a bold move, the club switched to an orange-based home kit, which they have proudly worn ever since. The bright and striking orange now represents FC Goa’s vibrant spirit and has become synonymous with the team’s passionate fanbase and their identity in the league.

Mumbai City FC

Mumbai City FC began their ISL journey in 2014, donning a deep blue shade for their home kit. This colour remained a fixture for the club throughout its first six seasons. However, after the acquisition of the City Football Group, the club underwent a transformation, moving to a lighter blue shade for their home kit—resembling the iconic colours of their sister club, Manchester City. This change signified a shift in the club’s aspirations and aligned their identity with the broader City Football Group, reflecting both their ambitions and global connection.

NorthEast United FC

NorthEast United FC have had a fluctuating approach to their home kit over the years, alternating between red and white. Initially, the club wore a white-based home kit from its inception in 2014 until the 2018-19 season.

For the following seasons, NorthEast switched to a bold red home kit, which they wore until the 2021/22 season. In the 2023/24 season, the club returned to the white kit but decided to revert to red again for the ongoing 2024/25 season.

Odisha FC

Formerly known as Delhi Dynamos FC, Odisha FC have experienced a number of kit changes since its inception in 2014. In the first two seasons, the club sported a vibrant orange home kit. From 2016 onwards, the club switched to a more traditional white-based home kit, marking a new era for the franchise. After rebranding to Odisha FC in 2019, the club continued with the white kit for the 2019/20 season before making a bold shift to a black and purple combination, which has since become their signature look.

Hyderabad FC

Though many might not remember, Hyderabad FC have also undergone a significant kit evolution since its inception in 2019. The club initially sported a black home kit with yellow as the away colour in their debut season.

However, from the 2020/21 season onwards, Hyderabad FC switched to a more dynamic yellow and black combination as their home kit. The yellow and black combination has now become synonymous with Hyderabad’s strong presence on the field.
