The EA FIFA ratings revelation is an annual affair that football aficionados eagerly look to. Fans of favourite players are often in a cut-throat competition to ensure that their stars receive the adequate numbers on the side of their names on the card. The FIFA 2025 ratings were declared last month, causing quite a stir on social media. Here’s a look at five players who have received absurd scores in the latest edition of the game.
- Pau Cubarsi – 72
The centre-back for FC Barcelona is only 17, which might have contributed to his lower grading. However, he is already a regular for the team, donning an important role in the heart of their backline.
Symbolising the key Spanish traits of neat passing and composure on the ball, Pau Cubarsi is being touted to take the legacy of Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique forward for the Blaugrana. Whilst Barcelona sit at the top of the standings after nine games, Cubarsi will be relieved with his on-field performances, but his off-field reputation certainly took a hit after this.
- Aleksandar Pavlovic – 73
Like Cubarsi, Aleksandar Pavlovic has nailed down a starting spot at his club, i.e. Bayern Munich FC. The 20-year-old central defensive midfielder has been rated 73, taking major hits in aggression (54), strength (64), free kick accuracy (65), and curve passing (65).
Strength and free kick accuracy are metrics that he might arguably improve upon in the future, thereby shooting up his overall rating too. However, after having covered 57 kms on the ground and scoring once in five league appearances this season, Pavlovic must have hoped for better.
- Kobbie Mainoo – 77
The Manchester United FC midfielder has received a 77 rating, which arguably does not reflect his growing stature in the game adequately. He has become an integral part of the Red Devils and the Old Trafford faithful have not taken a liking to his lower shooting ratings, in metrics such as shot power (69), long shots (58), volleys (52), and penalties (55). Mainoo had a breakout campaign in 2023-24, scoring thrice and assisting once in 24 Premier League appearances last season.
- Ousmane Dembele – 86
The Paris Saint Germain (PSG) attacker has been placed in the upper echelons of players by FIFA, giving him an 86 rating. However, by all means, Ousmane Dembele has not been in the top of forms off late. He has been extremely injury prone and was never able to live up to the hype around his transfer to FC Barcelona. In fact, Bukayo Saka and Rodrygo have been rated 87 and 86 respectively, who have arguably delivered significantly better outputs than Dembele in the last couple of seasons.
- David Raya – 83
The Arsenal FC goalkeeper has been ever consistent for the Gunners, and the team has come touchingly close to snapping their two-decade-long Premier League trophy drought. Though David Raya has scored a respectable 86 in passing, the custodian has notched 81 in handling and positioning each, along with 82 in reflexes. Being such an instrumental member of arguably the second-best team in England, Raya deserved a bigger upgrade this time around.
